Fue con entusiasmo, humildad y gratitud que asist\u00ed a mi primera Comisi\u00f3n en las Naciones Unidas y me alegr\u00f3 especialmente que fuera la Comisi\u00f3n sobre la Condici\u00f3n Jur\u00eddica y Social de la Mujer. He sido miembro del Comit\u00e9 Asesor de la ONU para la ONG Loretto\/CJ Sisters durante los \u00faltimos 7 a\u00f1os y el enfoque de todo el trabajo de la ONG y las Hermanas en todo el mundo es empoderar y educar a mujeres y ni\u00f1as.<\/p>

Mientras escuchaba las numerosas presentaciones, descubr\u00ed que las estad\u00edsticas eran abrumadoras. Se necesitar\u00e1n 300 a\u00f1os para lograr la equidad de g\u00e9nero en todo el mundo, las mujeres y las ni\u00f1as son las m\u00e1s afectadas por el cambio clim\u00e1tico y la pobreza, millones de ni\u00f1as no van a la escuela como lo est\u00e1n en pa\u00edses devastados por la guerra o sus culturas no valoran la educaci\u00f3n de las ni\u00f1as como algunos ejemplos.<\/p>

Fueron abrumadores pero ese no fue el mensaje de los presentadores y panelistas. \u00a1El mensaje era de progreso y de esperanza! Esperanza en todas las historias incre\u00edbles, esperanza en el progreso notado por las voces sobre el terreno, esperanza en las pol\u00edticas que los gobiernos se comprometieron a cambiar para avanzar por el camino hacia la equidad de g\u00e9nero y esperanza en las soluciones realistas que se estaban debatiendo.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

Una de las historias que fue m\u00e1s poderosa para m\u00ed fue la contada por una mujer india que trabajaba en varias comunidades indias rurales. Las mujeres con las que trabaj\u00f3 eran granjeras y quer\u00edan o necesitaban una cuenta bancaria. Sin embargo, como eran analfabetos, el banco no lo permiti\u00f3. Habl\u00f3 de su valent\u00eda, perseverancia y soluciones creativas como el uso de la biometr\u00eda (huellas dactilares) que finalmente les permiti\u00f3 acceder a una tarjeta bancaria porque \u201cpod\u00edan hacer n\u00fameros\u201d. Estas comunidades est\u00e1n prosperando porque la tarjeta bancaria ha creado muchas oportunidades y ha hecho que las mujeres se sientan empoderadas. \u201cLas mujeres no prosperan solas, se llevan a sus hijos con ellas\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>

Uno de los mensajes clave que segu\u00ed escuchando fue sobre el valor y la importancia cr\u00edtica de la educaci\u00f3n en el papel de hacer posible la equidad de g\u00e9nero y ayudar a las mujeres a salir del ciclo de la pobreza. Eso es lo que hacen nuestras Hermanas en todo el mundo: \u00a1\u00a1educar y empoderar a las ni\u00f1as!!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

Hubo un \u00e9nfasis particular en la educaci\u00f3n STEM (Ciencia, Tecnolog\u00eda, Ingenier\u00eda y Matem\u00e1ticas) y especialmente para las ni\u00f1as. Como profesora de ciencias en todas las escuelas femeninas, s\u00e9 que siempre hemos necesitado que las mujeres adopten las ciencias, pero ahora es fundamental. 80% de los ingenieros\/cient\u00edficos del mundo son hombres y, como cit\u00f3 un orador, \u201clas naranjas no pueden dise\u00f1ar productos para los limones\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>

Uno de los ejemplos m\u00e1s inquietantes que escuch\u00e9 fue la necesidad de mujeres en el campo de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA). Cre\u00eda que la mayor\u00eda de los problemas con la IA eran c\u00f3mo se utiliza para enga\u00f1ar a las mujeres, acecharlas, enga\u00f1arlas, documentarlas y\/o hacer campa\u00f1as de difamaci\u00f3n. Sin embargo, un investigador que trabaja en asociaci\u00f3n con la UNESCO afirm\u00f3 que es fundamental que nosotras las mujeres dise\u00f1emos los programas y algoritmos, ya que actualmente existe un sesgo contra las mujeres y las ni\u00f1as incluso en aplicaciones comunes como Chat GPT. Las mujeres deben ser las ingenieras que cambien los algoritmos para incluir de manera justa a mujeres y ni\u00f1as. \u00a1Nunca podremos cambiar los sistemas sin ser los dise\u00f1adores de estos sistemas!\u00a0<\/p>
