Me encontr\u00e9 en la Conferencia de la Sociedad Civil de las Naciones Unidas cuando nuestro director me llam\u00f3, junto con mi amiga Keendi y mi profesora, la Sra. Phylice Nyabate, para representar a la ONG IBVM en la conferencia. Estaba realmente emocionado de tener una oportunidad tan grande que apenas pude dormir esa noche.<\/p><p>Cuando llegu\u00e9 a la sede de las Naciones Unidas en Gigiri, estaba un poco aterrorizado porque no esperaba encontrar tanta gente en la conferencia. Sin embargo, despu\u00e9s de compartir puntos de vista y ver c\u00f3mo la gente luchaba libremente por sus derechos, finalmente me adapt\u00e9 y todo el miedo desapareci\u00f3. Esto realmente nos motiv\u00f3 a mis compa\u00f1eros y a m\u00ed a levantarnos y hablar por nuestros derechos, especialmente despu\u00e9s de ver a personas defendiendo audazmente los derechos de los j\u00f3venes y las generaciones futuras. Eso me asegur\u00f3 que mi futuro y el de otros j\u00f3venes como yo estaban seguros. Tambi\u00e9n aprend\u00ed sobre los diferentes problemas que enfrenta la gente en todo el mundo, lo que incluso me hizo derramar una l\u00e1grima, especialmente la situaci\u00f3n en el Congo con todo el genocidio en curso.<\/p><p>Tuve el honor de asistir a una reuni\u00f3n con la Directora Ejecutiva Adjunta de ONU Mujeres, Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, donde discutimos algunas cuestiones relativas a los problemas que enfrentan las mujeres y las ni\u00f1as en todo el mundo. Pude dar un breve discurso sobre la violencia de g\u00e9nero donde se\u00f1al\u00e9 algunas de sus causas, como las creencias culturales que hacen que la mayor\u00eda de las mujeres sufran en silencio.<\/p><p>Tambi\u00e9n me un\u00ed a algunos grupos de coalici\u00f3n. Uno fue Derechos y participaci\u00f3n de los ni\u00f1os, donde tuvimos una discusi\u00f3n sobre c\u00f3mo los ni\u00f1os pod\u00edan defender sus derechos y no ser socavados. Otro fue Pol\u00edtica de Drogas para el Futuro, donde discutimos c\u00f3mo detener el abuso de drogas. Nos dimos cuenta de que la mejor manera de lograrlo era financiando la educaci\u00f3n sobre los efectos del abuso de drogas. Esto se debe a que es m\u00e1s barato crear conciencia que curar a los que ya est\u00e1n afectados por el abuso de drogas.<\/p><p>Lo que aprend\u00ed de la conferencia fue que \u201cla energ\u00eda, la creatividad y el idealismo de los j\u00f3venes tienen el potencial de cultivar un futuro mejor\u201d. Sin embargo, enfrentan un panorama de obst\u00e1culos que amenazan su crecimiento, especialmente en lo que respecta al acceso a oportunidades.<\/p><p>Lamentablemente la conferencia tuvo que llegar a su fin. El Presidente de Kenia, Su Excelencia William Samoei Ruto, pudo asistir a la ceremonia de clausura donde nos honr\u00f3 con un maravilloso discurso.
