L&#039;\u00e9v\u00e9nement a \u00e9galement comm\u00e9mor\u00e9 le 30<sup>e<\/sup> anniversaire de l&#039;Ann\u00e9e internationale de la famille. J&#039;ai \u00e9t\u00e9 reconnaissante d&#039;assister aux s\u00e9ances pl\u00e9ni\u00e8res et aux \u00e9v\u00e9nements parall\u00e8les aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de Sr Janet Palafox IBVM et Sr Smitha Muthu CJ et de vivre l&#039;exp\u00e9rience Devenir Un de l&#039;Institut \u00e0 travers le Bureau des Nations Unies.<\/p><p>Il \u00e9tait important pour moi de participer au CSocD afin de promouvoir les objectifs d&#039;\u00e9ducation et de plaidoyer du Mary Ward Center en ce qui concerne les objectifs de d\u00e9veloppement durable (ODD) des Nations Unies et en relation avec nos projets avec les jeunes, en particulier les jeunes nouveaux arrivants. En outre, le Mary Ward Centre a parrain\u00e9 la participation d&#039;une repr\u00e9sentante de la jeunesse, Brantella Williams, pour assister \u00e0 une partie du CSocD et prendre la parole lors d&#039;un \u00e9v\u00e9nement parall\u00e8le parrain\u00e9 par l&#039;ONG IBVM-Loreto. Brantella, un d\u00e9fenseur de l&#039;\u00e9ducation des nouveaux arrivants, a parl\u00e9 de l&#039;importance du statut d&#039;immigration pour les jeunes nouveaux arrivants et de l&#039;acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e9ducation, soulignant la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d&#039;un statut de r\u00e9sident permanent pour tous les nouveaux arrivants ayant un statut d&#039;immigration pr\u00e9caire comme moyen de r\u00e9duire la pauvret\u00e9. Brantella a parl\u00e9 avec passion et authenticit\u00e9 du besoin r\u00e9el au Canada de meilleures politiques pour les immigrants, les r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s et les migrants.<\/p><p>La pr\u00e9sentation de Brantella a fait \u00e9cho aux messages d&#039;un autre \u00e9v\u00e9nement parall\u00e8le auquel j&#039;ai assist\u00e9 le <em>D\u00e9marchandiser les personnes, le lieu et la plan\u00e8te\u00a0: politiques transformatrices vers une inclusion et une appartenance inconditionnelles<\/em> parrain\u00e9 par plusieurs ONG confessionnelles. L&#039;ambassadeur irlandais aupr\u00e8s de l&#039;ONU, Fergal Mythen, a soutenu que les crises interd\u00e9pendantes de la pauvret\u00e9, des sans-abri, du logement et de l&#039;\u00e9ducation ne se produisent pas en vase clos ; ils sont plut\u00f4t le r\u00e9sultat de d\u00e9cisions politiques et d\u2019actions humaines. Nous avons besoin de politiques qui d\u00e9marchandisent les personnes, les lieux et la plan\u00e8te, et plus encore, ces politiques doivent \u00eatre mises en \u0153uvre. Ce qu\u2019il a dit fait \u00e9cho \u00e0 ce que les jeunes nouveaux arrivants au Canada nous ont dit. Ils ont souvent l\u2019impression que leur statut d\u2019immigration est une marchandise r\u00e9glement\u00e9e par le gouvernement canadien plut\u00f4t qu\u2019un droit de la personne. Les jeunes nouveaux arrivants au Canada qui ont un statut d&#039;immigration pr\u00e9caire ont de la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 acc\u00e9der aux services de base, m\u00eame \u00e0 l&#039;enseignement secondaire. L&#039;obtention du statut de r\u00e9sident permanent au Canada est une opportunit\u00e9 qui change la vie de beaucoup d&#039;entre eux.<\/p><p>Pendant CSocD, Brantella et moi avons eu l&#039;occasion de d\u00e9velopper notre relation de plaidoyer avec nos partenaires canadiens actuels de d\u00e9fense des ODD, les repr\u00e9sentants des S\u0153urs de Saint-Joseph de Toronto et de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration canadienne des S\u0153urs de Saint-Joseph qui \u00e9taient pr\u00e9sents. Ensemble, nous avons rencontr\u00e9 un repr\u00e9sentant du minist\u00e8re de l&#039;Emploi et du D\u00e9veloppement social Canada pour discuter d&#039;autres possibilit\u00e9s d&#039;engagement des jeunes sur les ODD et les initiatives f\u00e9d\u00e9rales de plaidoyer.
