data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Os 3 anos que passei em Nova York como o primeiro representante de ONGs das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas (ONU) da IBVM foram desafiadores e emocionantes. Como ONG afiliada ao Departamento de Informa\u00e7\u00e3o P\u00fablica, a nossa responsabilidade era promover as Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas e, como representante, a minha responsabilidade era trazer as vozes populares e a experi\u00eancia das nossas Irm\u00e3s \u00e0 mesa da ONU.<\/p><p>Um grande desafio foi aprender a navegar na complexidade do sistema da ONU e dissipar o mito de que a ONU era ineficaz. Era importante educar as pessoas sobre a disjun\u00e7\u00e3o entre a dimens\u00e3o pol\u00edtica da ONU e o papel de import\u00e2ncia vital desempenhado pelo pessoal e pelas ag\u00eancias da ONU no terreno. Foi fascinante ver qu\u00e3o arduamente o Secret\u00e1rio-Geral Kofi Anan e a colega canadiana Louise Arbor (Comiss\u00e1ria dos Direitos Humanos) trabalharam na reforma de certos aspectos da ONU com graus variados de sucesso.<\/p><p>O apoio da Lideran\u00e7a Geral, incluindo reuni\u00f5es anuais com os Conselhos da IBVM e dos Religiosos do Sagrado Cora\u00e7\u00e3o (RSCJ) em Roma, convites para as Reuni\u00f5es Anuais de Lideran\u00e7a Alargada e a liga\u00e7\u00e3o estreita com Pat Murray ibvm foi muito \u00fatil. Em grande parte devido a Pat e Monica Affonso, muitos IBVMs de todas as Regi\u00f5es e Prov\u00edncias vieram a Nova Iorque para uma experi\u00eancia pr\u00e1tica na ONU. O mais significativo foi a reuni\u00e3o de representantes do JPIC para a Confer\u00eancia Anual do Departamento de Informa\u00e7\u00e3o P\u00fablica da ONU (agora Departamento de Comunica\u00e7\u00f5es Globais). Tamb\u00e9m tivemos a oportunidade de discutir e planear como avan\u00e7ar e envolver Irm\u00e3s e colegas a n\u00edvel local para apoiar o Escrit\u00f3rio das ONG da ONU e ajudar na implementa\u00e7\u00e3o dos Objectivos de Desenvolvimento do Mil\u00e9nio.<\/p><p>Para mim, o alcance \u00e0s Prov\u00edncias e Regi\u00f5es foi facilitado por convites para visitar e encontrar-se com Irm\u00e3s, falar com Alumnae e fazer apresenta\u00e7\u00f5es nas Escolas de Loreto no Reino Unido, Espanha, Irlanda, \u00c1frica do Sul e participar no F\u00f3rum Social Mundial no Qu\u00e9nia. V\u00e1rias Irm\u00e3s individuais \u201cem viagem\u201d pelos EUA tamb\u00e9m vieram passar alguns dias. Um contacto muito \u00fatil foi Judith Mbuka, uma ex-aluna de Msongari, que foi Embaixadora do Qu\u00e9nia na ONU. Outra foi Maria Pablo Romero, da Espanha, que tinha m\u00faltiplos contatos na ONU.<\/p><p>A Confer\u00eancia Anual da ONU DPI proporcionou oportunidades para co-patrocinar \u201ceventos paralelos\u201d e trazer vozes populares \u00e0 aten\u00e7\u00e3o da ONU. O primeiro para n\u00f3s foi um painel de discuss\u00e3o sobre \u201cEduca\u00e7\u00e3o das meninas: chave para cumprir as promessas do mil\u00eanio\u201d. Dois dos tr\u00eas painelistas foram Cyril Mooney ibvm (popula\u00e7\u00e3o) e a Honor\u00e1vel Jean Augustine, primeira mulher negra membro do Parlamento e Ministra de Estado do Multiculturalismo e do Estatuto da Mulher. Cyril foi um dos tr\u00eas entre centenas de participantes que foram convidados a fazer uma declara\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 Assembleia no final da Confer\u00eancia. Posteriormente, trouxemos especialistas de base da nossa rede para as Confer\u00eancias DPI da ONU na Austr\u00e1lia e na Alemanha.<\/p><p>Durante uma das Comiss\u00f5es sobre o Estatuto da Mulher, organiz\u00e1mos uma apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o sobre a Erradica\u00e7\u00e3o da Mutila\u00e7\u00e3o Genital Feminina (MGF) por Ephigenia Gachiri ibvm. Pela primeira vez, a MGF foi mencionada na Declara\u00e7\u00e3o no final da Sess\u00e3o. Ephigenia foi convidada a retornar no ano seguinte pelo representante do Conselho Mundial de Igrejas e assim o fez.<\/p><p>Os briefings semanais oferecidos pelo Comit\u00e9 das ONG da ONU foram esclarecedores e perturbadores. Assistir aos apresentadores das ONGs \u201ccaminhando no gelo\u201d enquanto tentavam fazer reportagens precisas sem pisar nos p\u00e9s dos representantes do governo foi divertido, mas muito triste. Como os governos podem orgulhar-se de si pr\u00f3prios enquanto multid\u00f5es dos seus cidad\u00e3os vivem no medo e na mis\u00e9ria era mistificador e ouvi-los defender-se era doloroso. S\u00f3 as ONG que tinham sido expulsas podiam dar-se ao luxo de ser francas; os outros teriam colocado seu povo em risco.<\/p><p>Embora seja imperfeita, penso que temos de apoiar a ONU, o \u00fanico lugar onde todos os pa\u00edses do mundo podem ter voz. Precisamos de incomodar os nossos governos para que defendam o \u201cbem comum\u201d na ONU e n\u00e3o apenas promovam os seus pr\u00f3prios interesses. Precisamos de exigir que os nossos governos cumpram as promessas que fazem na ONU e forne\u00e7am \u00e0s ag\u00eancias da ONU o financiamento de que necessitam para realizarem o trabalho de cuidar e proteger as pessoas mais vulner\u00e1veis do mundo.<\/p><p>Depois de sair da ONU, pude acompanhar muitos grupos de estudantes que foram a Nova Iorque para uma visita \u00e0 ONU e para um workshop de tr\u00eas dias. Estes jovens voltaram para casa para se tornarem defensores da ONU pelo seu trabalho no desenvolvimento humano. Para mim, esta \u00e9 uma ferramenta poderosa para promover o pensamento social cat\u00f3lico e educar jovens l\u00edderes que far\u00e3o do mundo um lugar melhor para todos e n\u00e3o apenas para alguns privilegiados.<\/p><p>O IBVM deveria estar nas Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas?
