O evento tamb\u00e9m comemorou o 30<sup>\u00ba<\/sup> anivers\u00e1rio do Ano Internacional da Fam\u00edlia. Fiquei grato por participar de sess\u00f5es plen\u00e1rias e eventos paralelos ao lado de Ir. Janet Palafox IBVM e Ir. Smitha Muthu CJ e de experimentar o Tornar-se Um do Instituto atrav\u00e9s do Escrit\u00f3rio da ONU.<\/p><p>Foi importante para mim frequentar o CSocD para promover os objectivos de educa\u00e7\u00e3o e defesa do Centro Mary Ward no que diz respeito aos Objectivos de Desenvolvimento Sustent\u00e1vel (ODS) da ONU e em rela\u00e7\u00e3o aos nossos projectos com os jovens, especialmente os jovens rec\u00e9m-chegados. Al\u00e9m disso, o Mary Ward Center patrocinou a participa\u00e7\u00e3o de uma representante da juventude, Brantella Williams, para participar de uma parte do CSocD e falar em um evento paralelo patrocinado pela ONG IBVM-Loreto. Brantella, um defensor da educa\u00e7\u00e3o para os rec\u00e9m-chegados, falou sobre a import\u00e2ncia do estatuto de imigra\u00e7\u00e3o para os jovens rec\u00e9m-chegados e do acesso \u00e0 educa\u00e7\u00e3o, enfatizando a necessidade do estatuto de residente permanente para todos os rec\u00e9m-chegados com estatuto de imigra\u00e7\u00e3o prec\u00e1rio como forma de aliviar a pobreza. Brantella falou com paix\u00e3o e autenticidade sobre a real necessidade no Canad\u00e1 de melhores pol\u00edticas para imigrantes, refugiados e migrantes.<\/p><p>A apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o de Brantella ecoou as mensagens de outro evento paralelo do qual participei <em>Desmercantilizando Pessoas, Lugares e Planeta: Pol\u00edticas Transformativas Rumo \u00e0 Inclus\u00e3o e Pertencimento Incondicionais<\/em> patrocinado por diversas ONGs religiosas. O embaixador irland\u00eas na ONU, Fergal Mythen, argumentou que as crises interligadas de pobreza, falta de abrigo, habita\u00e7\u00e3o e educa\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00e3o acontecem no v\u00e1cuo; em vez disso, s\u00e3o o resultado de decis\u00f5es pol\u00edticas e a\u00e7\u00f5es humanas. Precisamos de pol\u00edticas que desmercantilizem as pessoas, os lugares e o planeta e, mais ainda, estas pol\u00edticas precisam de ser postas em ac\u00e7\u00e3o. O que ele disse ressoa com o que os jovens rec\u00e9m-chegados ao Canad\u00e1 nos disseram. Muitas vezes sentem que o seu estatuto de imigra\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 uma mercadoria regulamentada pelo governo canadiano, e n\u00e3o um direito humano. Os jovens rec\u00e9m-chegados ao Canad\u00e1 que t\u00eam um estatuto de imigra\u00e7\u00e3o prec\u00e1rio t\u00eam dificuldade em aceder aos servi\u00e7os b\u00e1sicos, at\u00e9 mesmo ao ensino secund\u00e1rio. Obter o status de residente permanente no Canad\u00e1 \u00e9 uma oportunidade de mudan\u00e7a de vida para muitos deles.<\/p><p>Durante o CSocD, Brantella e eu tivemos a oportunidade de construir nosso relacionamento de defesa de direitos com nossos parceiros canadenses de defesa dos ODS, representantes das Irm\u00e3s de S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 de Toronto e da Federa\u00e7\u00e3o Canadense das Irm\u00e3s de S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 que estavam presentes. Juntos, reunimo-nos com um funcion\u00e1rio do Departamento de Emprego e Desenvolvimento Social do Canad\u00e1 para discutir outras possibilidades de envolvimento dos jovens nos ODS e nas iniciativas federais de defesa de direitos.
