The 16 days of activism began on November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women until December 10 – Human Rights Day. For sixteen days we raised our voices on social media to advocate and remind our network that we need to continue to work together to eliminate gender violence.
Before the Covid 19 pandemic, one in three women suffered violence at the hands of their intimate partner. Reports indicate that the pandemic exacerbated the level of violence against women and children, especially during the lockdown when they are unable to flee their perpetrator. Let us call on our governments and our societies to STOP the violence!
The theme for this year is: “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!” UN Women encourage all of us to make a difference during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the continuing state of crisis across the world. We can support women and girl survivors of violence to stay safe and free of violence. Find out how you can!
