On October 11, 2024, Loreto Msongari School came alive with vibrant celebrations for the International Day of the Girl. The event was a powerful reminder of the importance of girls’ empowerment and the potential for young women to make a significant impact in the world.
The day began with a series of inspiring speeches from teachers and the student hosts of the town hall event who emphasized the need for girls to recognize their strength and capabilities. Each speaker reinforced the idea that every girl has the power to effect change, whether in their communities or on a global scale.
Highlighting the spirit of the occasion, students showcased their creativity through poetry and a captivating play. The poems, rich with emotion and insight, spoke of resilience, ambition, and the dreams of young girls. The play, performed by a talented group of students, illustrated the challenges girls face while also celebrating their triumphs and aspirations.
A recurring theme throughout the event was the call to action for every girl to do something impactful in her own way. Whether through advocacy, leadership, or simply pursuing education, the message was clear: girls have the potential to be change-makers. As the celebrations concluded, attendees were encouraged to reflect on their own roles in shaping the future. The International Day of the Girl at Loreto Msongari School not only celebrated the achievements of girls but also inspired them to take bold steps toward creating a better world. It was a day filled with empowerment, creativity, and a renewed commitment to gender equality.
I pass my gratitude to Sr. Janet Palafox, Mrs. Mbugua and my colleagues, teachers who helped plan and make the event a great success. And the learners who volunteered to hold the town hall event in school, our moderators Tamara Sudi and Clarice. In a special way to Sr. Eunice Ndabih who entrusted us with one of her student to walk the talk with her.
