My experience with KMWSC CARES

There is an apt quotation which says, “The happiest people I know are those who lose themselves in the service of others.” – Gordon B. Hinckley.

The Covid-19 pandemic and its second onslaught devastated the world and in particularly India. As our nation faced this devilish attack, many social organizations plunged themselves in war-footing mode to alleviate the sufferings of people. Among many social organizations, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) stands tall in its indomitable service to the neediest in the city of Kolkata. I got a challenging invitation to be a part of this process of helping together with the dedicated group led by Sr. Monica Suchiang ibvm, the director of the Social Centre.

The centre served cooked meals for more than 200 patients and needy persons for 50 uninterrupted days. It was not just a meal, but the meal created by many willing hearts like the sponsors, donors, volunteers, vegetables cutters, cooks, meal packers, distributers and daring Covid warriors. Together with this cooked meal, a group was there to monitor and assist the distant needy people with dry ration and medical kit.

What really struck me was the manner of organizing such a difficult responsibility in a smooth manner with all the agencies for the purpose of serving needy. It galvanised the people of every stratum including various religious congregations to break out of their shells to share time and resources. My small contribution was to chop vegetables with my favourite knife which I used faithfully for 50 days.

I was lucky to contribute my little share through KMWSC. I wish and pray that this organization continue to inspire and motivate every individual to lose oneself to the service of others so that they can assist others to enjoy true happiness of life in every sense of the word.
