Statements Submitted to the 2019 Commission for Social Development

As members of the Coalition for Global Citizenship, we submitted a statement on Global Citizenship as a Tool for Uniting in Achieving Inclusion and Equality through Equitable Wages, Fiscal Policies and Social Protections.  The concept of Global Citizenship arose from the realization of the interconnectedness and interdependence of humanity within the smallest communities and across the most distant borders.

Is it not the aim of CSoCD to bring about a more just, a more peaceful, a more tolerant and inclusive society? And so, we need a tool. We submitted “Global Citizenship” as this tool for uniting and succeeding in the goal of resolving inequalities, and we call upon those joined by the aims of CSoCD, as they set out on this path, to reach for the Global Citizenship tools delineated here as they strive to bring about inclusive social protections.

Addressing the rising inequalities that exist within and among countries is an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. This growing gap challenges social inclusion and must be overcome through fiscal, wage and social protection policies in order to uphold the inherent and inalienable dignity of all human beings.

We also consider that implementing National Social Protection Floors (ILO Recommendation 202) is an essential, action-oriented policy that ensures governments uphold their primary responsibility to their citizens. Together with other NGOs, we submitted another statement advocating for National Social Protection Floors.
